Family Influences

The questions:

What is the impact of family factors and the local environment on engagement in physical activity? How does the family and local environment affect any health outcomes of specialized movement education?

Consistent and positive experiences in physical activity need to be provided in the lives of young people. School is unlikely to be the sole agent for change in a child's life and habitual practices in physical activity appear to be strongly influenced by socio-demographic factors. We will investigate the influence of family factors on levels of physical activity, attitudes to physical activity, and health-related outcomes of physical activity and movement education in the short and longer term of this project.

Parents will be invited complete the family survey on an annual basis. The instrument is a combination of questions of previously validated child-based family and physical activity surveys.
